Absolute Zero Cool - Win a Copy!

The time has now run out to vote for Declan Burke’s (simply wonderful) Absolute Zero Cool in the Irish Book Awards.

This is a novel of extraordinary skill that is eliciting nothing but praise from the great and the good in literature.

Ken Bruen has this to say – “ AZC is unlike anything else you’ll read this year ... laugh-out-loud funny ...this is writing at its dazzling, cleverest zenith. Think John Fowles, via Paul Auster and Rolling Stone ... a feat of extraordinary alchemy.”

And the good news for you lucky readers of May Contain Nuts is that I have a free, signed copy to give
away.

How do you win this much sought after item? Just leave a message and tell me your favourite read of the year and why.

Laters,
M

  1. Hmm. Maybe it's my age but I can't remember what I read in early 2011. Let me have a think and get back to you.

  2. I think you're doing this on purpose, Michael. As a result of reading your post on this book, I bought it, loved it, voted for it and wrote a glowing review of it, which will eventually appear on Booksquawk. It's a brilliant book, it transcends the crime genre and deserves to be a big best seller.

  3. sarah, the clock is ticking.

Bill, RTFI. You're supposed to tell me what your favourite read of the year is. Unless. Unless you are and this is a cunning ploy. In which case I'm sorry I was rude.

The rest of you should all go and read something else while I talk among myself.

  4. Every book I read is my favourite at that time, so I reckon because I'm currently reading Maggie Craig's 'When the Clyde Ran Red' it'll have to be that one, but then the fabulous Michael Malone's book isn't out yet so there are more joys to come! (sucking up like mad here).

  5. I read your first comment in brackets as 'absolutely awful' and wondered why on earth you were going on like that about an absolutely awful book... Then re-read and realised my mistake. the problems of speed reading.

Best book - The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. There will be a sequel but only in about 3 years. too long.

  6. Chris, liking the obsequious nature of your comment. More please.

Gill, eh? And - nods his head - I'm liking your choice of Pat Rothfuss, although it could have done with a heavier edit IMHO. And YES, why does he take so looooong.

  7. hope your book will be in the run for some awards next year too, Michael :)
I'm not sure about the book of the year. I translated about ten of them this year, which is a record for me, but didn't like them a lot. I think BEFORE EVER AFTER from our fellow blogger Samantha Sotto could be my best read this year, she has brilliant language.

  8. Thank you, Dez. lots of sales - a few award nominations would make 2012 a very good year indeed.

  9. I'm nominating Australian Katherine Howell's Cold Justice published here in the UK in 2011. She's a former paramedic and each of her books feature the detective Ella Marconi and a different paramedic. Cold Justice was one of her best - well written and excellently plotted.
